2024 / some words from Charlene x 
2024 was a big year for us! from debuting the CL Reworked range on the runway, to the ‘visiting’ pop-up, hosting my first panel discussion, first sewing workshop, & working with so many beautiful creatives—it’s been a year of many firsts, collaborations & growth—not just as a platform but as a community ❥・

personally, navigating tennis elbow all year (among a few other health curveballs) has forced me to step back from my day job and also made it super tough to keep up with Chev Lane. that said, it’s opened me up to some of the best collabs & reminded me how amazing our community is when it comes to stepping in n lending a hand <3 sooo grateful for all of the ppl that have showed up & helped along the way

Bona shared a live reading from their beautiful poetry and photography zine ‘garramilla’, backed by select ambient sounds by @tinywhisk_nrg & @tinylittlebugg. The busy courtyard came to a still as their words filled the space, offering a moment of calm reflection before the night continued

echo & bounce has whipped up a limited menu especially for the @chev.lane ‘visiting’ weekend: and there’s been no better time to create a menu with a focus on sustainability and the circular economy than now.

this menu will be available from 9am saturday (and sunday, pending leftovers) during cafe hours ~ alongside @coffee_supreme_au free coffee sesh running from 9-11am on saturday.

the shining stars of this food lineup are the team at @loop.growers, who have provided the produce for this menu. loop describes themselves as “doing it the old fashion way”, putting care and patience into their craft. they also use excess organic materials from local cafes and restaurants, which then goes back into their compost, helping grow the next new batch of produce. the name “loop” couldn’t be more apt!!

we’re excited to feed you some fresh salads, sangas and cake this weekend

@tul.lio - Tullio, a DJ by night and a fashion academic by day, brings a unique perspective to their song selections. Their background in fashion design influences her conceptualisation of a demure and feminine energy dance floor for everyone to enjoy. She has supported the likes of Machinedrum, Bashkka and ISAbella in the music scene.

@tinylittlebugg - With a deep passion for curating moments that radiate happiness, tinylittlebug has been bopping on the dancefloors for many years and over the last 18 months has made the switch to djing. Blending energetic rhythms with uplifting melodies, crafting soundscapes that feel like a burst of sunshine on a cloudy day. Whether they are playing downtempo, house, soul or feel-good funk, every set is an opportunity to experience the unfiltered joy that comes with connecting through music.

@tinywhisk_nrg is a dj whose adoration for music comes through clearly in their craft. While unafraid to creatively push in all directions, their deep love for slinky, seedy grooves, dance floor moments (both minor & mega) and intangible atmospheres are a thread through both the parties they’ve had a hand in & their sets from the courtyard to the club

‘EB Jewellery’ is by Ebony Birks, a proud descendant of the Kamilaroi & Dunghutti people. Ebony’s handcrafted pieces draw from her cultural background & modern influences, rooted in an enduring sense of identity & connection to country. Based in Brisbane, Ebony identifies as one of an emerging class of designers hoping to render a distinctive aesthetic to her art & jewellery. Using recycled Australian precious metals, Ebony aims to demonstrate the significance of the environment, both through jewellery design; as well as through maintaining sustainable & environmentally friendly craft & supply practices

‘Flutters’: “I’ve been working with stoneware pottery for about 4 years & still feel a thrill every time I handle wet clay or open a kiln. My practice is centered around femininity in all its forms, inspired by artists like Ana Mendieta, Mel Arsenault, & Miki Kim, fixating on shapes of insects, flowers, shells, & more. In the studio, at Tafe or Clayground, the clay community’s willingness to share techniques & stories is truly beautiful. Pottery is my joy & I hope that joy follows each piece wherever it goes.”

‘Here Now’ by Emma Trewhella’s is driven by waste-informed practice. She transforms fabric scraps into garments & accessories, letting the material guide her creations. Emma also converts other artists’ 2D pieces into wearable garments, extending their lifecycle

‘Hannah Rigby Jewellery’ merges natural forms with wearable & sculptural art, focusing on sterling silver. Her designs, blend grace with playfulness & pay homage to sunny afternoons in the Blackall Range, walking the hinterland & swimming in Kondalila. Sustainability guides her work, with careful consideration of eco-friendly methods throughout each step of the crafting process

‘Left Lane’ is a slow fashion project based in Magandjin, a place to experiment without concern for expansion & probability, centering community & storytelling. Materials are sourced from local retailers of deadstock & second-hand fabrics, with each piece created locally, prioritising practicality & how the wearer experiences their clothing

Introducing our stellar lineup of local designers all exhibiting their work for VISITING, opening officially on nov 28. Each maker is unique, and we’d like to take the time and space on your IG grid to let you get to know them a bit better – in their own words. Here’s our first group of folks:

‘Also Known As’ is first and foremost inspired by traditional suiting, and the subsequent subversion of it. Reimagining classic silhouettes, their pieces elevate styling capabilities. “Our collections are deeply conceptual, and our ready to wear pieces take the essential elements of these concepts, transforming them into easily wearable silhouettes for every day”.

‘Bona Obiri-Yeboah’ is a transdisciplinary artist concerned with connecting and building community through excavating sound. Their practise extends into live performance, podcasting, poetry, essays, photography, zine making and spoken word. We are excited to have Bona join us on our opening night for a live reading of one of their lovely poems which will connect to the theme of “visiting”.

‘LAG’ is made and run by Lychandra Anastasia Gieseman. Lych is a nipaluna based artist & designer currently obsessed with cars. They work with found and recycled materials to create pieces that are ideally worn by any gender, body or mechanised entity. They nestle in the overlap between fashion, sculpture & performance art, & have hosted numerous experimental runways in warehouses, unused hallways, roundabouts, tennis courts and galleries. They believe in projects over seasons & looking hot while extraditing yourself from gender & fast fashion.

‘Mercury’ as a name originates from a willingness to change and adapt. Versatility is potent. Freedom of the wearer is encouraged - there is often no one, single way to wear these garments. Reversibility, separates, closures - independence is engineered into the designs. The ethos is one of high-quality and well-finished garments that leave a minimal impact on the earth. George creates limited-run, hand-made wearables using responsibly sourced fabrics in his Brisbane studio.

Chev Lane acknowledges the Turrbal People and the Quandamooka People who have been Traditional Owners of much of the area that we operate on. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging on which we live and work, and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. Sovereignty was never ceded.
